What we collect
- Your account. A name to greet you by, an email address, and a password stored as a PBKDF2 hash at 100,000 iterations with a per account salt. The password itself is never stored and cannot be recovered from what is.
- Your stories. Titles, descriptions, the ideas you type, the chapters written from them, the characters you make, and the pictures generated for both.
- Payment. If you subscribe, Stripe handles the payment. We store a Stripe customer id and a subscription status. Card details never reach this site.
- Your session. One HttpOnly cookie that keeps you signed in for thirty days. There are no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no third party scripts on this site at all.
- Rate limiting. A count of recent sign in attempts and recent requests to write, held against an email address or an account id for between fifteen minutes and an hour, and then deleted.
What we do with it
- Run the service: keep your account, store your stories, take payment.
- Write the chapters you ask for, and draw the pictures that go with them.
- Apply the free plan limits and keep your subscription in step with Stripe.
- Tell the site's owner that somebody has signed up.
We do not sell your data, we do not advertise, and we do not profile you.
Writing and drawing
Chapters are written by Anthropic's Claude. When you ask for one, your idea and a compressed version of the story so far are sent to Anthropic's API and the chapter comes back. Anthropic does not use this to train their models.
Covers and character portraits are drawn by an image model running on Cloudflare Workers AI, from the description you wrote. Earlier versions of this site used photographs from Wikimedia Commons instead; that is no longer the case, and any story still showing one was made before the change.
The stories are yours. They were written at your direction and they belong to you.
Who else is involved
- Cloudflare. Hosting, the database, file storage and the image model. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Anthropic. Writing chapters and suggesting directions. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Stripe. Payments. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- Resend. The one notification email this site sends. See Resend's privacy policy.
Children
Taleium is made for a parent and a child using it together. We do not create accounts for children and there is no way to make one. The account belongs to an adult, and a child takes part on the same device, in the same session, with that adult there. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you think a child has given us personal data without a parent knowing, write to hello@kabooly.com and we will delete it.
Cookies
One cookie, and it is the one that keeps you signed in. It is strictly necessary for the site to work, which is why there is no cookie banner on this site: there is nothing to consent to.
How long we keep it
Your account and your stories, for as long as the account exists. Delete your account and they go with it. Expired session records are removed automatically, and rate limiting counts are deleted as soon as their window closes.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete your personal data
- stop or restrict what we do with it
- hand it over in a portable format
- withdraw consent, where consent is what we relied on
Email hello@kabooly.com and we will answer within 30 days. If you are not happy with the answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes
If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it. Carrying on using Taleium after that means accepting the new version.
